Three including teenager are rushed to hospital after plane crashes at Langham Airfield in Norfolk

A teenager is fighting for his life after he was involved in a horrific plane crash at a Norfolk aerodrome that also saw two other people hospitalised in a ‘critical but stable condition.’

The crash involved a four-seater light aircraft that plummeted to the ground at 3:40pm yesterday at Langham Airfield.

The passengers – a teenager and a man and a woman – were airlifted to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital following the crash.

As the victims were treated, emergency services including the police and three fire crews and a water carrier raced to the scene to battle the inferno raging from the aircraft.

Air accident investigators are beginning their probe today as the trio battle for life in intensive care.

Known as RAF Langham, the aerodrome was used in Britain’s fight against the Nazis from 1940.

It was the most northerly of the World War Two RAF airfields in Norfolk and its position, just 3.3 miles (5.3 km) from the North Sea at Blakeney, made it ideal for RAF Coastal Command aircraft.

It was reactivated during the Korean War and was later used as an emergency landing strip for RAF Sculthorpe, before final closure in 1961.

East of England Ambulance Service said a man and woman were taken to hospital by air ambulance and a teenage male was taken to hospital by land ambulance.

Norfolk Police said yesterday evening ‘Emergency services are currently on scene at an incident at Langham airfield.

‘The three people who were on board the plane have been taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. They are in a critical but stable condition.

‘Officers remain on scene and a cordon is in place.

‘The Air Accident Investigation Branch have been informed.’
