Town councillor, 88, dies after wife 'murdered' in 'horrendous raid' at home | The Sun

A TOWN councillor, 88, has tragically died months after his wife was killed in a violent incident at their home, police have said.

Ken Walker was subjected to a "horrendous attack" alongside Freda Walker, 86, on January 14 this year.

Freda, a retired machinist, was killed in the horror in Langwith Junction, Derbyshire.

Mr Walker was left with critical injuries following the incident.

Police later revealed he was in a stable condition but he sadly passed away at Kingsmill Hospital, Mansfield, Notts on Monday.

It is not clear if he died from injuries sustained in the attack.

A post-mortem examination has not yet been carried out to ascertain the cause of death.

Vasile Culea, 33, was charged with Mrs Walker's murder and Mr Walker's attempted murder.

But he pleaded not guilty to both charges at Derby Crown Court in March.

Emergency services were called the couple's home of 50 years after a neighbour raised the alarm and found Freda dead and Ken critically ill.

Police said the pair had suffered "horrendous" injuries in the attack which they described as "an act of horrendous cowardice".

Retired minder Ken was also a former chairman of Bolsover District Council and school governor.

An inquest into Freda's death in February revealed she died as a result of head injuries and airway obstruction and her body had to be identified by her niece.

Romanian national Culea will go on trial at Derby Crown Court on October 4.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: "Ken Walker, the husband of alleged murder victim Freda Walker, has died.

"The couple were found by a concerned neighbour at 9am on Saturday 15 January at their home in Station Road, Langwith Junction.

"Freda, 86, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Ken was found with serious injuries that left him requiring hospital treatment.
