Two children are rushed to hospital after roof of school bus was ripped off in crash

Two children are in hospital after the roof of their school bus was ripped off in a crash in Essex.
Essex Police was called to Clatterbury Lane in Clavering, south of Cambridge, at around 8.15am.
Joyce Frankland Academy in Newport, which has about 1,000 children aged 11 to 18, said one of the Stephenson’s buses with some of its pupils on had hit a tree branch.
Three children were assessed at the scene and two were taken to Addenbrookes hospital.
Their injuries are believed to be minor. Essex Police said no serious injuries have so far been reported.

Shocking images showed that the entire roof of the 446 bus to Saffron Walden had been ripped off, and was leaning up against the double-decker vehicle.
Emergency services including fire and ambulance remain at the scene and the road has been closed.
Drivers have been advised to check before they travel in case of disruption.
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Firefighters were called to a road traffic collision in Clatterbury Lane, Clavering, at 8.23am.
‘On arrival, crews reported found a car and bus had been in a collision.
‘The bus had also collided with a tree branch causing extensive damage to the roof.
‘Nobody was trapped in either vehicle and firefighters worked alongside partners to make the scene safe by 9am.’
An air ambulance, three road ambulances, four Hazardous Area Response Team vehicles and two ambulance officer cars were sent to the scene, the East of England Ambulance Service said.

‘Three children were assessed at the scene and two were transported to Addenbrookes hospital for further assessment and care,’ a spokesman added.
Joyce Frankland Academy said in a statement that the roof of the 446 bus was damaged as it struck the tree.
‘We know the police and ambulance services are managing the situation to assess everyone involved, and thankfully our current understanding is that no serious injuries have been caused.
‘However, we are aware that some students have been taken to A&E and minor injuries by their parents to have some cuts and grazes looked at.’
A minibus was called to bring the children to school.
‘While most students appear to be OK, we know that this could have been a traumatic experience,’ Joyce Frankland Academy added.
‘Therefore we have made arrangements in school to provide a space for anyone who may be in shock or upset by the events.
‘Thank you to all students and parents for the calm manner in which they helped to handle the situation.’

The school said via its website that the bus was transporting its pupils and also children from Saffron Walden County High School.
‘While the full details are being investigated, we are aware that the bus roof was damaged as it struck a tree branch,’ it said.
Police closed the road while the incident was dealt with.
