UK beach blasted as ‘dump’ on TripAdvisor as tourists say they ‘couldn’t wait to get out of there | The Sun

TOURISTS have blasted a "dystopian" UK beach as a "dump" after finding mounds of litter, hordes of seagulls and dog waste.

The well-known Scarborough beach in Yorkshire has been slammed by some TripAdvisor users who were not happy with what they saw.

And many told horror stories about the tourist hotspot on the popular review site.

The beach has 50 ratings for "terrible" and 59 as "poor" out of a total of 3539 reviews on TripAdvisor.

Partney slammed the beach as a "dump" and said: "The beach was dirty and the whole neighbouring area littered and filthy.

"We last came here 15 years ago and it’s changed dramatically from a vibrant seaside town to nothing more than a ‘dump’."

While another user commented that they "couldn't wait to get out of there" after a visit.

They compared the seaside resort to a "dystopian" place, the very opposite of a perfect destination.

They wrote: "The sand seems permanently wet. Time seems to have stopped in the 1980s. Dystopian place. Couldn’t wait to get out of here."

A third Tripadvisor user blasted the beach, saying: "Full of screaming children, the most irritating seagulls attacking you and your stuff and, donkey ride! They smell and are pissing on the beach where children are playing!

"Morons leaving stuff close to the sea forgetting about the tides, so the beach is full of abounded blankets and any sort of trash you can imagine. What a sad and poor place… obviously it's not the beach, it's the type of people who go there."

Other TripAdvisor reviews confirmed that the beaches were "full of rubbish".

Pictures shared on social media showed bizarre items strewn across the sand.

WKD bottles, cans, dolls and half-eaten food were just some of the rubbish littering the beach.

While other images showed beachgoers playing on the beach just metres away from piles of trash.

Another TripAdvisor review confirmed that the "disappointing" beaches were indeed a "mess".

'DISGUSTING'

Fraser said: "Such a disappointment. Beach and surrounding area ruined by dogs and their owners.

"Dog pooping on the beach. Great, you clean it up however, kids are playing on the same beach, sitting in the sand and digging with their hands!

"Disgusting and unpleasant to watch while you are sitting eating ice cream. The area surrounding the beach is generally used as a dog toilet.

"Along all the paths and streets there is dog mess which has not been cleared or dog mess which has been cleared however there are remains and stains on every path and pavement.

"I wanted so much to enjoy Scarborough however was left sadly disappointed."

And one TripAdvisor user even said that they "felt sick" after claiming to see a seafront shop with a wooden box advertising "slaves chains".

It comes as Scarborough beach was one of 70 UK beaches Brits were warned against swimming at.

Heavy rainfall has led to sewage discharge into a number of beaches, with Surfers Against Sewage issuing a warning to avoid the water.

Other beaches with the warning in place include:

  • Southend Jubilee Beach
  • Sheerness
  • Folkestone
  • Dymchurch
  • Camber
  • Bognor Regis
  • Cowes
  • Saltburn
