A study has shown poor writing and grammar can scupper the chances of romance. And would-be Romeos would be well-advised to avoid slang, abbreviations and emojis in messages to lovers.
The survey of over 1,000 people by dating app Badoo found 69 per cent of single Britons are ‘turned off’ by poorly written messages in the early stages of courtship.
Nearly half of online daters (49 per cent) have been sent messages with little to no punctuation – and such schoolboy errors are ruining chances of intimacy, with 42 per cent admitting they are put off by a lousy message while ‘sexting’ a partner.

Forty-four per cent say they would dump a lover for sloppy writing, as it suggests laziness. And 40 per cent say ‘text talk’ – such as WUU2 (‘what you up to?’) or LOL (‘laugh out loud’) – is a turn-off.
And you’d better get it right from the start, as 69 per cent believe the first message reveals more about a suitor’s personality than their dating profile.
TV host Anna Richardson said: ‘Sloppy spelling can be a total deal-breaker for almost a third of us, it’s enough to stop us progressing with a relationship.

‘Almost half of us agree that text talk shouldn’t be a thing in 2022.’
She added: ‘You might think the comma seems small and insignificant but it’s about how you use it.
‘A little comma can go a very, very long way.’
The TV presenter has teamed up with Badoo to release a racy video titled ‘Talk Grammar To Me’, depicting Miss Richardson as a teacher imparting words of wisdom.
