VILLAGERS are in the ring against boxing legend Barry Hearn over his plans to buy their paradise estate.
Angry neighbours say the ancient hamlet needs to be protected and some said they don’t want celebrities owning the place.
But Hearn, 74, insisted: “I’m probably the best news these tenants have had because I want to keep it the way it is.”
He wants to buy the £15.75million Trevalga estate in Cornwall. It has remained undisturbed for generations with locals even sourcing their water from a well.
A mains sewage system was also only first installed a few years ago for the 80 residents in the 1,200 acre estate.
Battle for Trevalga campaign posters have since been put up across the village insisting “where there’s a will, there’s a way" and "stop the sale".

Campaign leader Serena Partrick, 38, told the Daily Mail: “This is one of the last remaining Cornish communities and we need to protect it.
“We hope someone making promises such as Mr Hearn’s – that the villagers will be protected – would sign legally binding documents to that effect.
“Mr Hearn has talked about the village being a ‘generational buy’. That raises questions about how long Trevalga would be safe without the protections of a trust.
“Then it would be an inheritance and the next person in line could do what they want with it.

“It’s lovely to hear the right things but there should be legal backing behind them.”
Serena was born in Trevalga and now lives a quiet family life with mum Lyn Lockyea, her adult brother and sister and two nephews.
Artist Rosalind Thomas, who lived with her husband Chris there for 50 years, said they would accept Hearn but hopes he doesn’t change the village or add holiday homes.
Hearn has visited the hamlet twice and introduced himself to the villagers.
The boxing promoter, raised on a council estate, called the hamlet beautiful and unique, adding: “If you’re from where I’m from and you see somewhere like that you think ‘ooh, I like this.’ It;s absolutely stunning.”
He also said: “It’s a beautiful piece of old England that needs development.”
He insisted he would arrange it so everyone can live their normal lives without inconvenience, and suggested either renting or selling two currently empty properties or using them as holiday lets.

Hearn added: “There’s not going to be any development other than tarting them up.”
He will send representatives next week and meet trustees later this month. He will then decide whether to make an offer.
