We spent £200 on 'shambolic' Oktoberfest event – we had to queue for HOURS in the cold for beer… we want refunds | The Sun

BOOZERS have slammed a 'shambolic' Oktoberfest event saying they had to queue for hours in the cold – and now they're demanding refunds.

The annual event, which tours the country, was in Anglesey for the first time on Saturday.

Oktoberfest UK advertises being the "UK’s biggest operator of authentic German beer festivals" but has since received a major backlash from the majority of people who bought tickets.

Jade Goddard took to Facebook slamming the event which she claims was not worth the £200 she spent.

She wrote under Oktoberfest UK's post: "My husband and 68 year old dad queued for 1hr 40 mins absolutely disgusting I paid £180 + £20 booking fee to reserve a table and it were a disgrace no waiting on service which we paid for we will be taking this further!!!"

Ceri Ogden, who went to the event, said £165 was forked out for their night out.

"My partner paid £165 for 6 of us to have a ridiculous table with no table service as promised on the ticket which was definitely not worth the money!," she added.

"It was 100% a miss sold advert and information on their part! We didn't receive our rent money back from renting their steins as staff didn't have any money to give to us!"

Kate Shiels also commented on Oktoberfest's post claiming the whole night was a "complete disaster" and urged the organisation to refund everyone.

"Complete disaster from start to finish!! I took my 84-year-old dad who had been looking forward to it for ages," she said.

"The organisation should be ashamed. Give us a refund and apologise to everyone who was there."

Many people have hit out at the extra cost paid to secure a table and table service – but it was suspended due to the lack of staff.

One hopeful festival-goer said she spent an hour in the queue to get in and then over an hour waiting to be served.

Ceri Evans said: "Absolutely shambolic! We queued for over an hour to get in – thank goodness it was dry.

"No table service as it had been suspended. Queue for the bar was over an hour long.

"Didn’t get a drink until 7pm. Absolute disgrace to charge so much and provide so little on return. I won’t ever come again."

A Facebook group has since been set up for the "survivors" in a desperate bid to get everyone a refund.

Oktoberfest UK took to Facebook yesterday to release a statement following the disappointing event.

They blamed the long queue to get in on "extensive" security searches which just left people laughing with one customer saying: "Care to explain how a requirement to take your phone out of your pocket was an extensive search?"

The organiser also said the long bar queues were a result of "numerous technical issues" and is one of the challenges they have to face when working with "new suppliers in a new location".

'COMPLETE DISASTER'

The full statement said: "Once the queue died down the atmosphere in the event was incredible. One of the best group of party people we’ve had join us over the years.

"We thank those who rode the storm and stayed until the end to enjoy the full experience – we’ve received a lot of positive feedback form those who stayed to enjoy the event.

"The bratwurst eating competitions and the Bavarian Oompah bands were particular highlights.

"We really appreciate all feedback, even when it's about a negative aspect of one of our events as it helps us to improve our operation.

"We take the criticisms levelled at us regarding the bar queues but we would ask that personal comments notably regarding the hostesses are avoided. As we know comments on social media can have a painful impact for those on the receiving end of them.

"The event was not perfect, and for us as a team its disappointing to know that some people’s enjoyment was impacted after we worked so hard on the event.

"We will be taking forward some important lessons to ensure no issues like this happen again."
