Who was Bruce Everitt Lindahl and how did he die? | The Sun

BRUCE EVERITT LINDAHL was an American suspected serial killer and rapist who evaded the police for years.

He is thought to have murdered at least nine young people during a nine-year period until his death in 1981.

Who was Bruce Everitt Lindahl?

Bruce Everitt Lindahl was born in St. Charles, Illinois on January 29, 1953.

The electrician was described by friends and ex-girlfriends as "very charming" and handsome.

But his true nature only emerged when Lile Country police Detective Chris Loudon tried to solve the 46-year-old case of slain schoolgirl Pam Maurer, 16, who was from the area.

It's believed Lindahl carried out a series of sickening crimes in the 1970s and early 80s.

It has never been confirmed how many people were killed or raped by Lindahl, and it's thought he may have dozens of potential victims.

How did Bruce Everitt Lindahl die?

Lindahl died on April 4, 1981, aged 28, while carrying out a murder.

He had befriended an 18-year-old high school student called Charles Huber while playing bowling.

Afterwards, Lindahl invited the young man back to his girlfriend's house for a drink and attacked him, stabbing him 28 times.

But Huber reportedly fought back during the attack, causing Lindahl to accidentally stab himself in the leg.

He hit a crucial artery and bled to death on top of Huber, who also died.

Who were Bruce Everitt Lindahl's victims?

The true extent of Lindahl's crimes are not known, but Detective Loudon is certain that nine women died at his hands.

He told The Sun: “He would have killed and raped so many more women if he hadn’t died.

“He would be about 70 now. He would still be doing it. I don’t believe we know all his victims.

“In 1979 he murdered three girls and in 1980 he murdered two within two months and then he died a few months later.

“I think he was just getting into his groove. He had figured out how better to do it, how to dispose of evidence.”

In 2019, Loudon reopened an investigation into the 1976 rape and strangulation of teenager Pam Maurier.

He sent DNA taken from her clothing, to a firm called Parabon labs which was able to trace a potential family tree, leading to Lindahl, by comparing it to around two million DNA records on a database.

They also produced an imaginary photofit – which looked remarkably like Lindahl.

After Lindahl was named as her likely killer in 2020, over 75 women came forward to reveal they had been attacked by him.

Though Lindahl was arrested for numerous crimes, he never served time in jail.

His close calls with justice included being accused of raping 20-year-old Annette Lazer at gun point in March 1979 and kidnapping Debra  Colliander in June 1980 before raping her.

The state’s lawyers decided not to prosecute in Lazers’s case, and Colliander was two weeks away from giving evidence against Lindahl in a trial when she went missing and the case had to be dropped.
