Why is there no local news on the BBC today? | The Sun

WORKERS on BBC's regional radio and TV broadcasts have been striking over proposed cuts to their schedule.

Here, we look at when these strikes started and the broadcasts which have been affected.

Why isn't BBC local news on today?

The BBC regional services are being disrupted in a row over cuts to their radio service.

The strike meant most regional TV news programmes across England have not been broadcast in their regular spots.

Shortly after 11am on Wednesday, March 15, 2023,some local radio stations broadcast a syndicated programme. Others kept their own shows, although many used stand-in hosts.

The National Union of Journalists said it expected more than 1,000 staff to take part.

When will BBC local news return?

When the strike ends at 11am on Thursday, March 16, 2023, workers will then start a continuous work to rule – sticking strictly to the requirements of their contract, for example not taking on extra duties or overtime.

The NUJ has described the strikes as a last resort.
