A WOMAN has been left fighting for her life after falling from a busy bridge in Smethwick, Birmingham.

Roads have been closed by the Guru Nanak Gurdwara as she was rushed to hospital in "critical condition".

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: "We were called following concerns for a woman on a bridge near High Street, Smethwick on Saturday morning.

"The woman fell from the bridge. She was taken to hospital in a critical condition."

An eyewitness who drove past the scene told The Sun Online: "My son had something at school so I was dropping him off.

"I saw someone lying in the middle of the road…I thought they'd had a heart attack or something."

They explained that a nurse was trying to revive the person in the road before the emergency services arrived.

The witness added: "When I came back there were two or three police cars and two ambulances blocking off the road.

"The police told us to clear the road and not to stop there.

"I was quite shocked and emotional…It was quite emotional when they were trying to revive her."
