Pastel makeup doesn’t sound the most wearable – with it, typically, conjuring up images of the 60s and garish blue tones.
But celebrities at the Met Gala proved pastels can pop… subtly.
From dainty drops of colour on the eyes, to brightened cheeks and even gently pastel lips, colour was used in considered, precise and feminine ways on the red carpet.

Terry Barber, from MAC Cosmetics, told us backstage at the SS23 Chet Lo show: ‘We’re doing bright colours with eyeshadows and blushers but in unusual placements, slightly off the usual places.
‘I was inspired by Holi festival and the pigments used there, flying in the air and landing on faces and Chet’s love of Japanese cartoons – it’s a mixture of those references.
‘It’s an interesting take on bright colour because I think when you use bright colour with a basic placement it can look quite clownish.
‘There’s a bit of a revolution in makeup at the moment – no one wants the classic formula anymore, that belonged to the last decade, so we’re going to see people get braver with makeup placement.’
