Jared Leto’s lifelike Karl Lagerfeld cat costume sparks priceless celeb reactions

Jared Leto surprised guests at the 2023 Met Gala as he dressed up in an alarmingly lifelike – though obviously gigantic – cat costume that sparked priceless reactions.

The A-list charity event has a theme each year and for 2023, guests were asked to pay tribute to the late Chanel designer and fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld.

Karl was a larger-than-life character until his death in 2019 and on Monday night's red carpet, stars sported pearls, tweed and even a blonde wig to pay tribute to him.

Others though, took a more unexpected route after being inspired by Karl's cat, Choupette – with 51 year old Jared sporting a Disneyland-style cat costume.

And as he walked the red carpet, Jared sparked some fantastic reactions. See the best ones below…

Lizzo

Lizzo's shock was visible as she hugged Jared on the red carpet.

The star hadn't even taken his mask off yet, so it's unclear if Lizzo had any idea who she was meeting.

The singer looked incredible in a pearl-embellished Chanel gown.

Anne Hathaway

Anne Hathaway – herself looking stunning in a Versace homage to Karl – laughed out loud as she spotted Jared and rushed over to take a snap with him.

The duo, who starred together in WeCrashed, beamed as they posted on the Met museum's iconic, carpet-clad steps.

Salma Hayek

Salma Hayek gave Jared's feline look her seal of approval as she she posed alongside him and Anne.

The Magic Mike star even cradled the House of Gucci star's cat head as they caught up on the red carpet.

Salma looked suitably stunning in a Gucci gown complete with a tiered skirt and high-shine corset.

Jimmy Fallon

Jared changed into a black cloaked look but continued to carry the cat head around.

As he held the head by his side, TV host Jimmy Fallon planted a kiss on the cat's head.

The Kardashian-Jenners

Jared posed up a storm with Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner.

By this time, the celebrity guests had made their way into to venue where they sat at tables and prepared to enjoy the show.

The Kardashian-Jenner clan seems relatively unfazed by the actor's costume and struck signature poses, with Kim pouting.
