Countdown star Rachel Riley ‘ill for 10 years’ as she slams ‘useless doctors’

Rachel Riley has opened up about her health battle of 10 years and how one important decision she and husband Pasha Kovalev made ultimately changed her life for the better.

The 34-year-old Countdown presenter has revealed that going vegan, was what finally relieved her of her symptoms after all those years.

She spoke about how she and her husband Pasha, 43, transitioned to removing animal products from their diet in 2018.

In an interview with the MailOnline, she shared that “there were loads of reasons” for the sudden change but it began because she “was ill with food”.

Rachel added: “I was ill for over ten years and the doctors were quite useless about it and I gave up some foods and was literally so much better overnight.

“I didn’t realise how bad I was feeling until I wasn’t feeling bad.”

The couple began removing eggs and dairy initially before moving to eat at vegan restaurants.

The 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown star shared that she soon “realised the food was really good and we didn’t have to eat meat and then we gave up fish.”

She added that even when pregnant, her diet could be maintained with a few food supplements instead.

The news follows the star’s swipe at former Countdown presenter Anne Robinson, 78, and their alleged feud.

The Sun reported that Channel 4 fans knew there had been a rift between the pair during Anne’s time on the show.

Anne became the first female host to take the role after Nick Hewer stepped down in June 2021 after hosting for 10 years.

Anne subsequently left the show in the summer of 2022 with Rachel reportedly debating whether to stay if the former remained.

Speaking to the MailOnline about host Colin, Rachel said fans had noticed a change to the show after the former The Weakest Link host had left.

She confessed: “The viewers have noticed that it’s a different type of show now.

“Anne was a lot more headmistress style and that suits some people, and some people enjoyed it.

“I don’t think it’s any secret that I am enjoying working with Colin a lot more,” Rachel confessed.
