Fern Britton has been inundated with support after taking to Twitter to tell her fans how she needed “cheering up”. The former This Morning presenter, 65, was reacting to the news that Liz Truss has become the next Prime Minister when she confessed her spirits needed to be lifted.

In view of her 119,000 followers, the best-selling author relayed why she was feeling blue.

She tweeted: “Went to garden centre, had lunch, bought plants and flowers…

“Needed a cheer up.. Liz truss,” she added alongside a sad face emoji.

The star was soon inundated with supportive messages from her fans.

Twitter user @ladylynncarter wrote: “Plants always cheer me up,On a gloomy day!

“What did you buy? My recent bargain was a lovely lobelia,Bampton verbena, a white Gaura.. all for £10!

“Not big plants but never the less they are happily snugged in a pot together happy me!” (sic)

However, others wanted to weigh in on the political news.

@MckennaBryony commented: “She’ll never be as good as Boris.”

Fern replied: Well let’s hope she’s better!

While @iseworld1 challenged the novelist on her post, writing: “Whats wrong with her? Do you care to explain?

“Let’s be honest, there is no one yet to be a fair and hard working leader in the world.”

Fern hit back: “You are right. We don’t know.

“She may be great but I’m not feeling it,” she confessed.

It comes after Fern told how she “looks back and laughs” at her marriage to ITV chef Phil Vickery.

In a new interview, the star revealed she has completely ruled out marrying for a third time as she reflected on looking back at her marriage.

Fern admitted: “Looking back at my marriage it’s like a closed chapter after 20 years.

“I can think about the good things and laugh.”

However, she firmly ruled out walking down the aisle for the third time.

She firmly stated: “No way will I get married again,” she told Saga Magazine.
