Some of Prince Harry’s oldest friends allegedly called him “f****** nuts” for dating Meghan Markle after she disagreed with some of their views at a social event, a new book claims.
The Duke of Sussex’s friends are said to have been told off by the Duchess, after she heard some of their “endless banter” during a shooting weekend at Sandringham in 2016.
The incident is said to have occurred not long after Harry and Meghan had gone public with their relationship, author Tom Bower claims in new book Revenge: Meghan, Harry And The War Between The Windsors.
The prince had invited 16 of his friends to the event, including old friends from Eton and their partners.
However, some told the author they felt Meghan didn’t make much of an effort with Harry’s pals, as well as calling them out on some of their risqué language and views.
In an extract of his new book, published in the The Times, Tom writes: "Their jokes, involving sexism, feminism and transgender people, ricocheted around the living-rooms and dining-rooms.
“Without hesitation, Meghan challenged every guest whose conversation contravened her values.
“According to Harry’s friends, again and again she reprimanded them about the slightest inappropriate nuance. Nobody was exempt."
The author says that Harry "had not anticipated Meghan's reaction" amid a weekend of "endless banter, jokes – and a lot of drinking".
As the group drove home from Sunday lunch texts were said to have been sent between the cars, with one pal saying: "Harry must be f***ing nuts."
The author also details a second incident, which allegedly took place when Harry and Meghan were in Jamaica to celebrate the wedding of the Prince’s old school friend Tom ‘Skippy” Inskip.
The author claims many of the 40 guests at the three-day bash at the Round Hill Hotel in Montego Bay thought Meghan behaved "princessy". This included allegedly complaining about the food and refusing to engage with Harry's friends.
Harry and Meghan share two children, three year old Archie and one year old Lilibet.
Although the couple often keep their family life private, Meghan previously opened up to pal Ellen DeGeneres when she appeared on her show and told the host about the sweet bond her two youngest share.
The Duchess appeared on the show in November last year and answered Ellen’s question about whether Archie likes being a big brother, by replying: "He loves being a big brother.
“Someone told H [Harry] and I that when you have one kid it's a hobby, and two children is parenting. Suddenly we realised, oh right, everyone talks about what it's like for the second child, but no one talks about the adjustment for the first child when the second one comes along."
She added what she thinks went through Archie’s head when his sister was born: “So I think they have that moment of, 'Oh, this is fun… oh, this is how it is now'.”
Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors is scheduled to be published on Thursday 21 July.
