Heartbreak for Bachelor stars Irena and Locky Gilbert as they suffer second miscarriage

The Bachelor stars Irena and Locky Gilbert have experienced a devastating second miscarriage, following a previous pregnancy loss in 2021.

During an appearance on the The Morning Show on Tuesday, 33-year-old Irena opened up about her recent tragedy while speaking with hosts Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

Addressing her heartbreak, she shared, "Regrettably, Locky and I have just suffered another miscarriage.

"We went through a similar experience a few years ago in the early stages of our relationship. Since our marriage, we have been actively trying to start a family, but the journey has been slow and hasn't gone according to plan."

"However, like any other couple, we face our own struggles," she continued.

"The devastation is undeniable. We have relied on each other for support, which has been immensely helpful. At this point, I hold on to hope that eventually, we will have our own family.

"But for now, I also want to extend my support to others who may be going through similar situations."

Irena and Locky first hit it off on season eight of The Bachelor in 2020 and tied the knot in an intimate ceremony with their close family in March 2023.

Irena expressed the difficulty of dealing with a miscarriage privately while constantly being questioned about their plans for having a baby.

She added: "It is painful to experience something as traumatic as a miscarriage while constantly being asked those intrusive questions.

"This is why I feel compelled to discuss it openly. It is not acceptable to place pressure on any woman solely because she is married and expected to have a child."

The couple often shares enviable snapshots from their life together, with Irena relocating from Melbourne to Perth to join her adventure tour guide partner, Locky.

However, in December 2020, they faced heartache after suffering miscarriage shortly after Christmas.

Reflecting on that period, Irena revealed to WHO magazine, "During our early months as a couple, I unfortunately experienced a miscarriage.

"Locky stood by my side unwaveringly, and his unwavering support deepened my love for him.

"He was my pillar of strength. He cared for me, looked after me, and guided me through the difficult journey," she acknowledged.

The TV personality has since taken it upon herself to raise awareness about miscarriages, emphasising that they are more common that we think, with one in five pregnancies ending in such a loss.

She also stressed the importance of eliminating the stigma and pressure faced by women who suffer in silence.
