I ruined everything in Love Island villa and caused a ban, Maura Higgins reveals

Love Island star Maura Higgins has revealed she may be the reason bosses decided to ban fake tan in the villa.

The model and TV star, 32, who appeared on the ITV2 competition's 2019 series alongside Molly-Mae Hague and winner Amber Gill, has been sharing her secrets from behind the scenes.

And her latest comes as a sheepish response to fellow islander Chloe Burrows, who lamented that producers had chosen to stop all islanders from bringing in fake tan and eyelash extensions into the villa.

Chloe, who was coupled up with Toby Aromolaran during the 2021 summer series and went on to be runner-up in the final, said she was disappointed and surprised as she reflected on the rules last year.

"I'm fake tan and eyelashes 'til I die and then I went in there and they were like, 'Yeah you're not allowed fake tan because of the bedsheets'," the star explained.

Laughing over her possible involvement in the decision during an interview with Insider, Irish beauty Maura commented that she was thrilled to have still been allowed to take her fake tan inside the sun-soaked villa when she went on the show as a bombshell.

"But I've heard they've banned fake tans, and I said to myself, 'Thank God that I did it when I was allowed'," the star told Insider.

Considering the reasons behind the ban, Maura reflected back on her stay inside the Love Island abode and admitted she caused a lot of mess with her products.

"I caused the ban because I ruined everything in that villa and I did not care," she giggled. "I'm an Irish girl and I need my fake tan."

While the brunette fan-favourite was happy to have been able to keep her routines, she also was apologetic to future islanders who won't be so lucky.

"It's probably my fault. I'm sorry to everyone else," Maura guessed as she reflected on the issue once more.

The former islander went on to share even more behind the scenes secrets from the villa, as she claimed that producers ended up having to convince her to "get glammed up" every night.

Telling the publication that she wasn't interested in dressing up and wearing makeup every day, Maura's approach to doing things her way still holds fast.

"If I had my way I'd be in my pyjamas all day and all night," the star added.

Maura made it to the final with professional dancer Curtis Pritchard during her season, and after a rocky journey the pair came in fourth place.

While the model and Dancing On Ice star initially butted heads with Molly-Mae over her now-fiance Tommy Fury in the villa at first, the pair have since become close friends, regularly reuniting and reminiscing over their mutual once-in-a-lifetime experience.
