Jonnie Irwin shares cancer battle update after being admitted to hospital

Jonnie Irwin implores public to ‘learn from my mistake’

Jonnie Irwin, 49, has broken his silence after being admitted to hospital last month, as doctors were “monitoring a changeover in my pain management regime”.

The former A Place In The Sun presenter is battling incurable cancer, and one fan took to Twitter to ask how he was doing.

The worried Twitter user enquired: “Wonder how @jonnieirwin is doing?

“I know he has cancer and was in the hospital getting pain management. Is that good or bad? Not sure!

“That is the last I heard. Hope he is feeling better soon.”

Last night, Jonnie thanked the fan for their concern, as he revealed he is now back home with his wife and three children.

The Escape to the Country star wrote back: “Thanks, I’m back home and feeling relatively good! X.”

Jonnie initially told fans of his hospital admission on Wednesday last week via an Instagram post.

The TV presenter shared: “In hospital this week monitoring a changeover in my pain management regime.

“Fingers crossed I’ll be out in time to make an appearance on Sunday for this weekend’s A Place In The Sun LIVE event at @olympialondon in Kensington.”

Jonnie was scheduled to appear alongside his Channel 4 co-stars Jasmine Harman, Laura Hamilton and Ben Hillman, as he simply concluded his post by saying: “Hope to see you there.”

The star first announced his lung cancer diagnosis publicly in November 2022, after battling the disease for two and a half years.

The illness has since spread to his brain.

Jonnie recently addressed why he had kept his health battle hidden for years, admitting he “needed money” and therefore had to keep working while undergoing treatment.

He said on AIG Life’s OneChat podcast: “One of the reasons I came out and told people about my story…I want people to learn from my mistake.

“I didn’t take critical illness insurance out and therefore I had to keep working.

“Without work, I’ve got no means of paying the bills. And if I had taken the critical illness insurance out, that could’ve covered my outgoings and I probably could’ve told the world a lot sooner.”
