Series 10 of the hit dating reality show Love Island started last night. Which meant it was time for host Maya Jama to welcome the latest ten Islanders to their new Majorcan home, where they’ll be residing for the next couple of months.
From a Corrie star’s daughter to a 22 year old beauty clinic owner, this year’s lineup is looking pretty stellar, and we can already sense the drama, carnage and pure entertainment we’re going to experience.
But among the excitement that comes with a brand new series – including the new twist where the boys and the girls entered the villa together for the first time ever – plenty of fans have already noticed an ick, not even one episode in.
It comes as the new cast members quizzed each other on their ‘type’ as they all got to know one another.
While chatting away about what they look for in a partner, a flock of Love Island fans took to Twitter to beg them to stop using this one particular phrase: ‘Tall, dark and handsome.’
Plenty of hardcore viewers even called for the line to be banned before anyone actually dropped it, suggesting it’s a touchy subject in the unofficial Love Island rule book.
“Praying no one says they’re into guys who are “tall.. dark and handsome…” #loveisland,” one person penned as another said: “If I hear tall dark and handsome this season I’m gonna lose it #LoveIsland.”
But it wasn’t long until the Islanders started throwing the forbidden three words around, which led to a further flurry of fans airing their discontent online.
“Not the tall dark and handsome already #LoveIsland,” a third viewer typed as a fourth agreed, writing: “PLEASE enough with tall dark and handsome rhetoric let’s rest #LoveIsland.”
Other fans got sarcastic with the phrase now synonymous to the show, as one user joked: “me patiently waiting for the "tall dark and handsome" comments to begin,” alongside a meme of Spiderman chilling on a balcony.
Someone else dropped the iconic Ben Affleck cigarette meme with the caption: “Everyone cross “tall dark and handsome” off your bingo cards #LoveIsland.”
It’s one of those things where once it’s pointed out, you can’t unhear it. And considering that the Love Island villa is a no social media zone, it’s highly likely fans are going to just have to deal with it.
