Omid Djalili discusses Little Britain and Come Fly With Me in 2020
Comedian Peter Kay has said that “it’s a shame” how the BBC show Little Britain has amassed controversy over the years due to its sketches.
The programme came under fire in 2020 for some of the characters used in various scenes.
Criticism included the use of blackface and making jokes about transgender people.
Peter has now waded in on the conversation surrounding the backlash and has described the comedy scene as a “minefield”.
In an excerpt of his new book, TV: Big Adventures on the Small Screen, obtained by The Mirror, he said: “It [Little Britain] was all very far from being politically correct but that’s what made it funny. It probably wouldn’t get made now.

“Sadly, Matt [Lucas] and David [Walliams] have taken a lot of flak in the past few years for the work they did. I think that’s a shame.”

Peter also added that the comedy scene is “such a minefield”.
“Everybody’s a critic on social media. Something or somebody gets ‘slammed on Twitter’ (which might only be by a handful of people) and the press jump all over it.
“They sensationalise a story in order to generate clickbait for themselves and their websites. It can really damage or destroy somebody’s career.”
Little Britain has since been added back to BBC iPlayer but with certain sketches removed from the show.
