Royal fans label King Charles and Queen Camilla perfectly at ease sit in thrones for first time

Royal fans have given their reactions to King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla taking their places in thrones at Westminster Hall for the first time yesterday, Monday 12 September.

King Charles, 73, and Camilla, 75, made one of their first appearances in their new royal positions at Westminster as 1,200 people gathered to hear the King make his first speech in the ancient hall.

MPs from both parliamentary parties and peers were among those seated in the building, to witness of yet another unprecedented royal spectacle as Charles and Camilla sat at in thrones.

The chairs reserved for the royals were positioned at the head of the chamber as they arrived at Westminster to the band of the Household Cavalry played sombre music in waiting of the pair.

Fans have taken to social media giving varied responses to the change in seeing King Charles and Camilla on the thrones.

One person tweeted: “Beautiful seeing King Charles III & Queen Consort Camilla together at this official engagement”, as a second said: “They look dignified, regal and perfectly at ease.”

Another shared their sympathy for Charles in his new role, as they wrote: “What a baptism of fire for King Charles. How he keeps on his feet I don't know. An unenviably demanding job.


“All good wishes to him and Queen Camilla. Saw up close, their hard work & gruelling schedule in Cashel earlier this year. Health and good wishes to both!"

One user couldn’t get used to the image of Charles and Camilla on their thrones, as they said: “Very strange to see.”

Observing Camilla in her new seat, a fourth wrote: “She looks terrified, I think the gravity of her new position is dawning on her with world eyes fixed on her & waiting for her to slip.”

Speaking to those at Westminster Hall, Charles confessed he has felt "the weight of history" in the days since his mother Queen Elizabeth II passed.

He began his speech saying: "As I stand before you today, I cannot help but feel the weight of history which surrounds us and which reminds us of the vital parliamentary traditions to which members of both Houses dedicate yourselves with such personal commitment, for the betterment of us all.”

The King then thanked the MPs and peers for their messages, as he said: “I am deeply grateful for the addresses of condolence.”

Charles added that the messages of support “touchingly encompass what our late sovereign, my beloved mother the Queen, meant to us all”.
