Sam Smith goes shirtless as they channel Ken in Barbie-themed outfit

Sam Smith previews their Gloria tour

Oscar winner Sam Smith is really embracing the fact that they have a single on the Barbie soundtrack by rocking a full-on homage to Ryan Gosling’s Ken.

Latching on to the trend for Barbiecore fashion they posted pictures to their 14.6 million Instagram followers in which they donned an eye-catching pink bomber jacket, paired with blue checked shorts.

They also sported bleached blonde hair and went topless underneath the jacket – reminiscent of Ken’s styling in the movie.

They captioned the post: “DULUTH, YOU ARE MY DESIRE,” which refers to the city in Minnesota where they played on Friday night. It was the latest date on the North American leg of their Gloria the Tour which kicked off in Miami on July 25.

Fans were quick to rush to the comments to compliment the on-trend look.

Sam’s track Man I Am entered the Official UK chart at number 58 this week in its first week of single release, joining several other songs from the hit movie in the listing.

Three of the soundtrack songs from the hit movie feature in the top 10 and all artists have enjoyed a boost because of their association with it.

Indeed, Ryan Gosling has joined Sam as a bona fide music artist with his track I’m Just Ken ensuring he added more listeners than any other artist on Spotify.

Sam has been performing the track on their current tour and last week caused a stir when they wore a typically flamboyant outfit as they took to the stage in Miami.

Their devil-themed outfit consisted of a black thong, fishnet tights, platform over-the-knee boots with a block heel and red lace detailing, a top hat featuring a devil’s horn, and a black corset with gold detailing.

They topped off the standout look by wearing a black mesh tailcoat with puff sleeves, which they later removed, and some red gloves for an even more dramatic effect, as they brandished a red glittery pitchfork.

However, despite the star’s penchant for over-the-top clothing, Sam actually downplayed their look for the European premiere in London on July 12.

While the cast, including Australian lead Margot Robbie and Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan, showed off some stunning looks Sam opted for a cosier option, arriving on the pink carpet in a navy sweatshirt emblazoned with 16 XL and extremely wide-legged oversized baggy jeans.
