Stars of big ITV drama reveal upset residents waged war on cast filming in their quiet village by smashing trailer windows, blaring horns and shouting ‘get lost’
Marc Warren and Maimie McCoy reveal they were faced with fierce opposition from upset residents when they filmed the new ITV series of Van Der Valk.
The pair were shooting scenes for season three in a quiet village in the Netherlands when the cast were targeted by vandals and villagers screaming at the cast to ‘get lost’.
Marc, 56, who plays Commissaris Piet Van der Valk, and Maimie, 44, (Inspecteur Lucienne Hassell) were relieved when they moved on to film in Amsterdam after tensions reached boiling point after four days.
‘We filmed in this gorgeous little village with just one through road – and the villagers hated us being there,’ Maimie tells The Sun.
‘They would be stuck in traffic trying to get through and beep their horns, so you’d be trying to do a scene and there’d be these consistent horns blaring, and shouting. It would be like: “Get lost! Get out of our place.”

‘One of the caravans we were staying in, which belonged to a location guy, got vandalised, some woman was really annoyed that we were there, so they smashed in the back window overnight. Sometimes people get very excited about film crews but it was the opposite there,’ she adds.
Mark says residents just wanted to be able to get to work and were frustrated the production was holding up traffic on the main road.
Series three is set to return to screens on Sunday. It follows Dutch detective Piet Van der Valk as he takes on criminal cases in Amsterdam using human observation and his natural street smarts.
Hustle star Marc took on the role in 2020 as Piet Van der Valk, formerly taken by the late Barry Foster in the 1970s.
The original series were based on the novels of Nicolas Freeling, but these new stories have been created by Casualty writer Chris Murray.
It comes after ITV announced there will be a second series of drama Ridley on Thursday.
Adrian Dunbar, 64, portrays former detective inspector Alex Ridley, who was brought back in after an early retirement due to a nervous breakdown following the loss of his wife and daughter.

The actor said: ‘There can be no greater endorsement of hard work and talent than the recommission of a series and to that end we have to thank ITV and the British public for taking to Ridley in such numbers.
‘We shall certainly work just as hard to keep the standard we have set, and I look forward to developing Ridley as a character over the next four episodes.’
Series three of Van der Valk returns to ITV on Sunday at 8pm.
