I got a chunky tattoo at 18 – I spent hundreds and went through agony trying to remove it, but it's still there | The Sun

A TATTOO enthusiast has shared the ink she got at 18 years old but later wasn't fond of.

The TikToker has spent hundreds of dollars and gone through pain while trying to remove it, but it's still visible.

"This is what my tattoo looked like after two sessions of laser," the woman (@ephemeraltattoo) said in a TikTok video, showing the old tattoo which originally said "believe" on the screen.

The skin in the area that was lasered looked raised and pink.

"Three sessions later and it's still not completely gone," she said.

She showed the location the tattoo previously was, and while it was significantly faded, there were still some remnants.

"I got this tattoo when I turned 18 to help me overcome a painful period in my life," she explained.

"But after a few years, I reached the point where the message of the tattoo no longer resonated with me.

"I also thought the design was too chunky and didn't match my style anymore.

"So I decided to get laser removal and it hurt so bad."

She continued: "It felt like the top layer of my skin had been burnt off, even with super strong numbing cream. Not to mention it was $550 a session.

"After going through three sessions of excruciating pain, it got to the point where it was too expensive to continue.

"So this is what I'm stuck with now until I go back for more," she said showing her wrist where the tattoo was placed again.

Viewers of the clip gave input on the tattoo removal process and shared their experiences in the comments section.

"Yeah definitely think before you get a tattoo. Laser removal is way worse pain than the tattoo itself," one person wrote.

"My tattoo looks exactly the same and it’s been three sessions," said a second.

"After three sessions of removal, it looks great. I’m a laser tech and almost no tattoos are completely gone in three sessions, it takes time lol," a third person added.

And a final person said: "You need six to 12 sessions… it looks like the tech used the wrong spot size and settings. You shouldn't have had skin bubbling."
