I make all my kids do chores and my six-year-old has to make her own lunch, if she doesn’t she’ll just go hungry | The Sun

A MUM-OF-SIX has divided opinion after sharing the strict rules she uses for her kids.

Ruby Franke lives in Springville, Utah, with husband Kevin and their six children, and the family regularly share videos on their 8 Passengers YouTube page.

While the majority of clips follow their family life and occasions such as graduations and birthdays, there are some that have sparked controversy.

One such video saw Ruby receiving a text from her daughter Eve's teacher saying that she'd forgotten to bring her pack a lunch so could she bring a lunch to the school for her.

"This happens quite often when you're raising children," Ruby said.

"I know that her teacher is uncomfortable with her being hungry and not having a lunch, and it would ease her discomfort if I came to the school with a lunch.

"But I responded and just said, 'Eve is responsible for making her lunches in the morning' and the natural outcome is that she's just going to be hungry.

"Hopefully no-one gives her food and no-one steps in and gives her a lunch, because then she's not going to learn from the natural outcome.

"My hope is that she'll be hungry and come home and go, 'Oh man, that was really painful being hungry all day. I will make sure to always have a lunch with me.'"

Her daughter Eve was six-years-old when the video was filmed.

And people in the comments section didn't take too kindly to Ruby's approach.

"I would understand her point if Eve was a teenager but she was literally 6 when this happened," one wrote.

"Kids can’t learn if they’re too hungry or tired!! Most schools will have a sandwich or something even if you forget one or something," another added.

As a third commented: "As a teacher, I’d be filing a report if a parent had this reaction to me asking them to fulfill basic needs."

And that's not the only time Ruby has caused controversy in one of her videos.

In another, she was seen saying that she wouldn't be feeding her kids until they got their chores done.

"My kids are literally starving," she said.

"I hesitate to say this because it's going to make me sound like a mean barbarian, but I told the kids, 'I'm not going to even let you eat breakfast until you get your chores done."

"food is not something that should be conditional," one person commented on that video.

As another added: "Food is something you have to give to your kids, chores are dependent on the family.
