A DIY whizz who gave her kitchen a modern makeover has shared the genius way she transformed her cupboards on a budget.

Mel explained how she was desperate to update her Vinyl cupboards but didn't want to fork out on getting new ones.


So, the savvy homeowner decided to use her trusty hairdryer to remove the laminate from the cupboard doors to reveal the MDF.

She then simply primed and painted them – and now they look brand new.

In a clip shared to TikTok (@littleterracedhouse), Mel can be responding to a social media user who asked: "Have you done your cupboards, too?"

She replies: "So no I did not vinyl the cabinets but what I did do is the opposite.

"I used my hair dryer to get the shiny white laminate coating off – this was what was there when we moved in and it's not my bag.

"But there was nothing wrong with the cupboard, so I used hair dryer.

"I got that off, primed it because it's MDF underneath and that meant I could repaint them."

But the DIY guru goes on to note that what she did vinyl was the fridge.

"I love it – basically Smegified it," she says.

"Then painted the cabinets using my favourite paint, which is Little Greene.

"The top cabinets are painted pale clay and the bottom is Boringdon green – both colours from Little Greene."

Alongside the video, she penned: "Cupboards look brand new for a fraction of the cost!"

The video has since gone viral, racking up 232k views and several comments from very impressed social media users.

"I think you might be about to save me a small fortune," wrote one.

A second enthused: "Wow what a transformation!!!"

A third penned: "Looks awesome!"

Another added: "Stunning!"
