I'm a dog trainer – three breeds I'd never advise for a first-time dog owner & the pooch that’s mouthy & tough to handle | The Sun

IF you're looking to become a first-time dog owner, then you may just want to take note.

That's because a dog trainer named Jamie has revealed the three dog breeds he'd never recommend you get.

In a clip shared to TikTok, he noted how first on his list of pooches for first-time dog owners to steer clear of is the Husky.

"A lot of people get Huskies because they look really cool and they're cute and fluffy but what people don't realise is that these dogs have a lot of energy and can run all day," explains Jamie (@jamiethedogtrainer).

"If you're unsure of how far they can run, just look up the yearly Iditarod (an annual long-distance sled dog race run in early March)."

The dog expert adds: "Huskies can also have really high prey drive which means they need a really experienced handler to navigate that – don't get one if you've got a cat!"

Next up, Jamie says to avoid the Belgian Malinois.

"A lot of people get these now because of the movie starring Channing Tatum (named 'Dog'), however they are not a pet dog," he claims.

"They shouldn't be in pet homes – they are a super high drive dog, in fact, there is no dog in the world that is as high drive.

"The're really mouthy, tough to handle in the home and need a lot of work."

The final dog breed on his list, and perhaps the most controversial, is the American Staffie.

"These dogs are super powerful and really need to be with an owner that really understands their needs," he says.

"You'll hear people on social media saying they're cute and that they're 'nanny' dogs but this really doesn't help the breed.

"A first time dog owner and a really powerful breed can be a really bad mix."

The video has since gone viral racking up over 86,000 views and endless comments from dog owners all offering their own opinions.

"I knew Husky would be number 1 yet that is my first dog and he’s the best thing to happen to me ever," wrote one.

A second penned: "Australian Cattle Dogs. I love them, but not a breed for the novice."

A third commented: "I have a Pug and he’s crazy! People say they’re old people’s dogs! I don’t agree, he has soo much energy."

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "Agree, amstaff x Staffordshire, not a first time dog owner, was not however prepared for how tenacious and stubborn compared to my Kelpie."

Another added: "We accidentally got a Belgian as a first family dog thinking she was a German Shepard.
