I'm a gardening pro – you should be mowing differently in July, it's better if you're in a drought | The Sun

A GARDENING professional has warned lawn lovers they should be mowing differently in July.

He added it was even better for your grass if you're in a drought.

The tip came from green-fingered expert Michael (@themediterraneangardener).

His user-friendly approach to garden jobs has seen him grow a following of over 132,000 plus another 1.6 million likes.

“Gardening tips and tutorials [and] nature lover," is how he describes himself on his TikTok.

In this post, he had a list of jobs that should and could be done in July.

But first, his attention was focused on his garden grass.

“Raise your cutting height on your lawn mower to leave the grass a little longer in dry weather," he advised.

There could also be another blossoming for some plants with his next tip.

“To get a second flush of flowers from your wisteria, you can give it a summer prune now. And climbing hydrangeas can also be pruned after flowering," he said.

You could have even more crops next year if you are prepared to put the work in he urged: "It’s time to expand your rose collection by taking softwood cuttings."

It was a similar story for some soft fruits: “Peg down strawberry runners in pots of compost to get free plants.

Don't forget to give your fruit trees the best conditions for growth either.

“Thin out heavy crops of apples, pears, and plumbs and remove any damaged or undersized fruit."

Finally, keep the humidity up in your glasshouse if you're lucky enough to have one: “Don’t forget to dampen down your greenhouses on hot days," he wrote.

“So many great tips. We love your account," was the reaction of this fan.

And there was grudging admiration from this viewer: “I’ve spent four hours in the garden today, I don’t need more jobs. But I have listened and it works.”
