I’m a traveller – people always want to know about grabbing, here’s the truth and it’s not what you think | The Sun

A TRAVELLER has revealed the truth behind grabbing culture and marriages.

Bridget Barbara, from the UK, took to TikTok to dispel myths about her community, including what really happens during 'grabbing.'

The mum-of-two explained exactly what grabbing is and that many travellers don't even participate in the 'tradition.'

She said: "Okay, let's talk about traveller grabbing, and does travellers marry their cousins, and travellers marriages."

However, the brunette beauty claimed some people in her community were becoming upset by Bridget revealing the in's and out's of her culture.

"Because travellers say our Bridg is making a show on travellers telling the country people everything," she revealed.

The term 'grabbing' often refers to young boys physically grabbing young women they take a liking to as a way of courtship.

Bridget explained that grabbing isn't as prevealnt in the community anymore.

She said: "So grabbing was a thing years ago, so the boy would, basically, this is my conception of grabbing.

"The boy would get the girl and he would hold her, he'd twist her arm a little bit up her back, and he wouldn't be allowed to touch her anyway whatsoever. He can't touch her in any sexual manner whatsoever.

"And when the girl is more hard to be got, the boy likes her more.

"Grabbing is not really a thing anymore, by the way guys."

Bridget also debunked the myth that travellers marry their cousins, saying that again, this isn't something that happens in modern time, although it did sometimes happen in the past.

She also lifted the lid on arranged marriages, saying it does happen within the community despite some travellers denying it.

The video posted to her account @bridgey.barbara has since gone viral with over 75k views and over 4,000 likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments and thanked Bridget for opening up about her culture.

One person wrote: "Country people marry there cousins too & its not illegal."

Another commented: "I love learning about your culture."
