I'm an interior designer and here's four very impractical design choices – you'll be sick of clearing grime out of one | The Sun

AN INTERIOR designer has taken to TikTok to share the four design choices he would never have in his home as they’re totally impractical.

Jordan revealed that while vessel sinks, free-standing baths and black matte cabinets might look great, they’re a nightmare to keep clean.

Known online as @jordansamsondesign, Jordan regularly shares interior design and home transformation tips with his 71,500 followers.

In a new TikTok reel, he said: “Here are the worst interior design trends.

“First is matte black kitchen cabinets with no hardware.

“I currently have these in my rental apartment and there are fingerprints, handprints, footprints all over them, in places I swear I have not touched and it’s very annoying to clean.

“Next, is vessel sinks and don’t get me wrong, these look beautiful but cleaning them is a nightmare.

“The crevice between the sink and the countertop and that back wall is going to collect a lot of grime and gunk, and depending on size there can be issues with splashing.

“I would just avoid these in high-traffic bathrooms.

“A powder room might be okay.

“Also throwing in free-standing tubs because if you don’t have the proper clearance like this, these are very annoying to clean.

“And last is grey wood floors. Wood does not naturally look like this.

“It’s meant to have a little bit of warmth to it so it appears very soulless and almost plastic-looking.

“Another issue is versatility. It can be very challenging to decorate with.

“Adding anything warm to it will clash with the undertones.”

In the comments, Jordan’s followers shared their reactions, with one writing: “Free standing tubs.. can’t understand why people still do this, how they don’t think at all about anything besides the looks.”

Another said: “Finally someone giving actual useful critique to interior design trends, that doesn’t entail hating on things because they are popular. Just facts.”

A third added: “YES the goddamn grey floors in every apartment these days absolutely kills me.”
