I'm an interior designer – my 3 rules for hanging TVs and when I make exceptions, height and distance are important | The Sun

AN INTERIOR designer has shared her three rules for hanging TVs.

She explained she makes exceptions but height and distance are key to having the proper set-up.

Julie (@juliejonesdesigns) shared the tip video with over 300,000 TikTok followers.

"A hot topic in the comments of a lot of my videos is TV height and whether or not you should be having a TV over your fireplace," she said.

She believed that a homeowner could hang a TV whenever they want in their home but should keep in mind height and distance.

"There are instances where I have made exceptions to my own rules like this living room," she said.

"The first rule that I personally like to follow is having your TV at eye level."

She explained that if someone is sitting too close and the TV is up high, it can cause neck issues.

"I would recommend tilting your TV down and getting a recliner," she said.

Her second rule is distance from the TV in order to have a pleasant viewing experience.

"I don't like to be farther than 10 feet away, here we have a lovely visual telling us it's great if your TV fills up about 30% of your cone of vision," she explained.

"This means if I'm sitting 10 feet away, I can have a pretty good sized TV, there's also sound travel to take into consideration."

People took to the comments to share their thoughts on her take.

Many agreed with her: "Eye level TV really is a game changer," said one commenter.

"We opted out of a fireplace in our home build for this reason. Large TV is the main focus lol," said another.
