It's 97 degrees outside but my mopping hack keeps my home cool – and the key ingredient is free | The Sun

FROM fans to air conditioning, there are countless ways to keep your home cool in the summer heat.

One woman has shared her handy hack for cooling down her space while also cleaning her floors.

In her video, TikTok user Arlyn (@_ar.lyn) demonstrated "how to cool your house faster on a hot day."

The New York-based TikToker showed her followers the 97-degree forecast before she revealed her secret trick.

She explained that she begins cleaning her floors when the temperature gets too high.

"Add cleaning supplies to mop water," Arlyn explained to her followers.

She recommended using Pine-Sol and Fabuloso when tackling your floors.

However, the content creator's third ingredient is the key to keeping your home cool.

She advised her viewers to add "lots of ice" to their mop water before cleaning.

Arlyn then demonstrated the trick as she mopped her floor with the ice-cold water.

"Make sure to get the floor very wet before drying," the influencer told her audience.

Home care expert Beatrice Flores spoke to Homes and Gardens about the science behind the hack.

"The evaporating water from the melted ice will help to add humidity to the air, which can also help to cool things down," she explained.

Arlyn pointed out that her home felt "extra fresh" after she mopped her floors.

"It melts fast so I suggest adding a lot of ice," she advised her followers.

TikTok users took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the trick.

"We do this in Arizona it's 114 [degrees Fahrenheit]," wrote one viewer.

Another impressed follower said: "I’ll have to try that, thanks."

"I could see that actually being super helpful," commented a third person.

However, not all of Arlyn's followers were immediately sold on the household hack.

"Cold water does not clean up oils and grease from floors," pointed out one person.
