Meghan’s £80,000 eternity ring is ‘more glam’ than Kate’s ‘minimalistic’ jewel

There are few engagement rings that compare to those worn by members of the Royal Family, such as Meghan Markle’s.

The royal ladies also regularly rock eternity rings, including the Duchess of Sussex and Princess Kate.

To honour Meghan’s recent 42nd birthday, diamond specialists at Steven Stone closely examined the sentimental ring and shared everything fans need to know about it, including how it contrasts with Kate, Princess of Wales’s eternity ring.

A stunning piece of jewellery known as an eternity ring is created by setting several diamonds all around valuable metals like platinum or yellow gold.

The eternity ring, which has roots in ancient Egypt, has stood as a representation of unending love for many years.

When Meghan unveiled her £80,000 eternity ring at Trooping the Colour in 2019, it drew the attention of many royal fashion enthusiasts.

In addition to her wedding band and engagement ring, Meghan wore an eternity ring that her husband, Prince Harry, gave her on their first wedding anniversary.

The birthstones for Meghan, Prince Archie, and Harry (an olive green peridot, a flawless green emerald, and a blue sapphire) are set into the conflict-free diamond eternity band on the underside of the ring.

Each birthstone is said to have its own importance and meaning, with sapphires thought to shield those closest to you from harm, peridots thought to provide the wearer strength, and emeralds said to represent rebirth and love.

Following the birth of Kate and William’s son, Prince George, the Prince of Wales gave the mother of his children an eternity ring. Kate displays her classic sapphire engagement ring and Welsh gold wedding band next to a pave set eternity band.

In 2014, it was made official that Kate’s ring is an eclipse eternity ring. Fans spoke to a goldsmith with their suspicions that the jewel was designed by the brand Annoushka.

It costs £1,500 and is made of 18ct white gold with a high polish finish. It is hand-set with 0.23ct diamonds.

Maxwell Stone, a diamond expert at Steven Stone, told Express.co.uk: “Gifted to her by Prince William following the birth of Prince George, Kate’s eternity ring is fairly minimalistic. Made of 18kt white gold and hand set with 0.23ct of sparkling white diamonds, it’s a timeless piece that oozes with everyday elegance.

“It’s not unusual for Kate to wear jewellery from high street jewellers – not only did William gift her a pair of £100 Sezane earrings on Christmas day, but she also debuted a new pair of earrings at this year’s BAFTA’s that cost just £17.99 from Zara.

“Kate’s eternity ring is available from Annoushka for £1,500 – an incredibly modest price tag for a royal piece.

“Gifted to her by Prince Harry on the couple’s first wedding anniversary, Meghan’s diamond eternity ring is a bit more glam as it features peridot, emerald and sapphire stones on the underside of the ring – the birthstones of Meghan, Harry and Archie. The inclusion of the family’s birthstones is an incredibly sentimental choice from the Duke of Sussex.

“I’d estimate Meghan’s eternity ring to be worth approximately £80,000, which is a great deal more than Kate’s is worth.”
