But if that has happened to you and you can’t get it to budge, fear not, you’ve come to the right place.



Many of us will know that removing tomato stains can be quite a challenge, but luckily for you, you won't need to spend ages scrubbing away at the sink.

One woman recently took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page to ask for advice on how to remove nasty tomato sauce stains.

To her surprise, many cleaning enthusiasts shared their simple but effective hack.

And don’t worry, you won’t need to go out and splash the cash on fancy cleaning products, as this hack is totally free – yes, you heard that correctly.

Andrea Ryan wrote: “Splashed tinned tomato juice on my lemon sweatshirt.

“Tried shaving foam, then white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, been two days and then washed with Vanish in washing powder and still stained, any tips would be good.”

Within just two hours of Andrea sharing her dilemma on the social media cleaning page, the post had received nearly 100 comments from cleaning fans sharing their tips and tricks.

The majority of group members suggested washing stained clothing as normal and then simply drying them in the sunlight to remove the stains.

One cleaning whizz said: “Definitely get it out in the sunshine, that stuff is magic on stubborn tomato stains.”

A second wrote: “Tomato based stains disappear when exposed to full sun, I don't know why.”

A third commented: “The sun is the best solution for tomato based stains.

"Wash as normal and peg out on a sunny day (if you’ve got one due in your area). It’s like magic.”

Whilst someone else revealed: “I find that putting it on a boil wash, then hanging on the line in the sun is great for taking out stains.”

Meanwhile, another noted: “I married into an Italian family, resulting in lots of tomato stains (love pasta sauce).

"Always goes if you leave freshly laundered fabric in the sun, even in the UK.”

It turns out that UV rays break down tomato stains so if you're clothes are covered in harsh stains that won't budge, you'll want to give this a try.

Simply launder clothes as usual and hang out in the sun.
