People are only just realising why trainers have extra lace holes and it turns out we’ve been tying our shoes up wrong | The Sun

IT turns out that our trainers have a little-known feature that many of us aren’t aware of and have never used before.

What’s more, because of this secret feature, it appears that many of us have been tying our shoes up all wrong.

You may or may not have noticed it before, but the majority of running trainers will have extra shoelace holes that are known as eyelets.

These eyelets are slightly to the side of the normal shoelace holes and have a very specific purpose.

According to trainer experts, you can thread your shoelaces through these holes to give yourself extra ankle support.

Therefore, this “heel lock” stops your foot from sliding around as you’re walking.

Not only this, but doing this will help to prevent blisters too.

It’s also important that people wear trainers that mould well to their feet when they’re doing physical activity.

By using the ankle eyelet and lacing trainers up properly, you could reduce risk of injury too.

The Run Shoe Store website explains: “If your heel slips while wearing the shoe, there’s an increased risk of developing a blister around your heel area.
