Sophie Wessex mimics Kate Middleton in £1,535 dress

Sophie Wessex was in Portsmouth yesterday, September 29, where she met with and spoke to the Royal Marines cadets volunteering at the city’s base. The Countess looked sophisticated in a green dress and black blazer.

The Portsmouth Division of the Royal Marines Volunteer Cadet Corps shared images of the Countess of Wessex on social media yesterday, accompanied with the caption: “Today our Cadet RSM, had the privilege in meeting HRH The Countess of Wessex on one of his final duties in his tenure as #LordLieutenant Cadet for Hampshire.

“What an honour to represent the @VCCcadets and have a one to one conversation with a member of the @RoyalFamily.”

In the photos, Sophie is coming out of a vehicle to meet with the cadets.

She donned a forest green dress called the Denver by royal favourite Emilia Wickstead.

The dress was available to buy on popular fashion website Matches Fashion for a huge £1,535, but it is currently out of stock.

The website described the garment, saying: “Emilia Wickstead’s refined moss-green Denver midi dress is made from heavyweight crepe with elegant cap sleeves and contouring seams.

“The felicitous fit-and-flare shape is a hallmark of the London-based designer, who designs with flattering proportions in mind. Wear it to an evening soiree with gold-tone earrings and a boxy clutch.”

It also retailed at Selfridges, who offered more information, saying: “Emilia Wickstead noted Picasso as inspiration for her colour palette this resort season. She doused many of her signature frocks in mind-boggling hues, some more neon than others, but all just as impactful to the eye.

“She treats the Denver dress with similar attention-to-detail by dipping its structured crepe profile in a unique shade of forest green. And as a result, this conservative silhouette is refreshed for the modern day woman to party in.”

Sophie has worn this dress many times in the past – four times in 2018, once in 2019, and once in 2020.

The dress also comes in different shades, including a brighter green. Interestingly, Kate, Princess of Wales, owns this version and wore it to the Wimbledon women’s singles final, played between Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova, in July 2021.

At the time, Kate matched the dress with a pair of white kitten heels.

As for Sophie, she donned a light jacket over the dress, which was the black Valina Jacket from Sandro Paris.

The jacket was collarless and slightly cropped, skimming Sophie’s waist.

She completed the look with the Sophie Habsburg Cleo Clutch in Emerald, which was square-shaped and had a crocodile print texture.

On her feet she she wore a pair of Jimmy Choo Zadie 85 Clay Suede Ankle Boots in a light brown.

Sophie’s blonde locks were pulled back in a slick bun and she wore minimal make-up.

However, some fans were unimpressed with Sophie’s choice of shoes. User @teri_dost wrote: “Different shoes (or at least a black one) would make it way better. But still – love the dress and jacket.”

User @florence.pit said: “Love the look. (Maybe not the best shoes to go with it).”

Viviane added: “Green and black can be difficult. (I tried it and looked like a spruce in a deep dark forest), but here it goes well together. Maybe I would have chosen black boots.”
