You’ve been applying mascara wrong – how to stop it going it going clumpy and giving you spider lashes | The Sun

EVER go to apply your trusty mascara only to discover it's gone dry and clumpy already?

Beauty whizz Nikki Hendon knows the same struggle, but she's got a clever hack to stop it from happening so fast.

It turns out when you apply mascara there's a specific way you should be getting to product on the want – and it's not pumping it in and out of the tube.

Nikki explained: "I know we used to pump our mascara back in the day, but it HAS TO END!!"

According to the beauty pro, pumping the want traps air inside the tube, which is why it dries out.

"Dry mascara means, clumping, flakes and an overall clumpy looking eyelash! We definitely don’t want that," she continued.

So, what should you do instead?

Swivelling the want in circles inside the tube is the way to go – you'll still coat the brush in plenty of product, but it won't dry out.

When it comes to coating your lashes in mascara, you shouldn't just start from the middle of your eye and go up either.

"You are not utilising your eye shape, you're missing out out on so much mascara potential," Nikki said.

Instead, you should start out the outer corner of your eye to make sure you coat the smaller lashes then go in a "rainbow motion" flare all your lashes up.

She explained: "You start by bringing your outer lashes horizontal, then slowly bring them upward with the shape of your eye.

"If you are doing the straight up method with your mascara, please stop."

After sharing her hack on Instagram other beauty fans couldn't believe they didn't think of it sooner.

One commented: "I will try it. Thank you. Because you never know until you try."

And a second said: "Great tip, I'll give it a go!"
