Released in October 2023, the Charge 6 is the latest entry in Fitbit’s line of Charge activity trackers.

Positioned between the budget-friendly Inspire 3 (£84) and higher-end smartwatches like the Versa 4 (£179) or the Sense 2 (£219), the Charge 6 is now the brand’s foremost option for mid-range buyers with fitness and exercise at the top of the agenda.

Interestingly, Fitbit’s latest addition to the Charge line is cheaper than its predecessor, the Fitbit Charge 5, which cost £169.99 when it was first released.

The Charge 6 has entered the market as a sound choice for anybody searching for an affordable but capable fitness tracker from a reliable, big-name brand.

One of the most eye-catching aspects to the new Charge is its hugely expanded workout capabilities – this should serve you well in almost any situation.

The Charge 6 comes loaded with over 40 different exercise modes: that’s a huge improvement on the 6 that came with the Charge 5.

Running, crossfit, boxing, weightlifting, HIIT, pilates, yoga – they’re all available modes that are pre-built into the tracker.

These modes will track your activity of choice, logging stats and offering pace alerts. (Swimmers should also take note: the Charge 6 is water-resistant to 50 metres.)

It also comes with new levels of compatibility with various exercise equipment, letting you see your real-time heart rate on the machine’s screen.

Thanks to the built-in GPS, runners can rely on the Charge 6 to offer turn-by-turn wayfinding on Maps with their phones left conveniently at home.

Alongside its versatility as a workout companion, the Charge also makes a hugely effective health tracker, offering up a comprehensive set of metrics – a series of improvements actually make this Fitbit’s most accurate heart rate tracker.

As to be expected from any fitness tracker, it will count your steps, distance covered and the calories you’ve burned.

The Charge 6 also has a built-in SpO2 pulse oximeter sensor that will track and measure your blood oxygen levels during your sleep.

While you snooze, the Charge 6 will also track your heart rate, blood oxygen and skin temperature – with this wearable you’re ultimately able to keep an eye on your body’s trends and performance 24 hours a day.

In the Fitbit app, you can look over the previous night’s sleep stages, and you’re given a ‘Daily Readiness Score’, that tells you how well you’re set up for the day.

With this feature, the Charge 6 will even guide you towards the most suitable kind of fitness. Is it a day to smash it in the gym, or is your body in need of a rest day or yoga session?

Design-wise, the Charge 6 keeps the same svelte, understated aesthetic we’ve seen in previous models in the line.

In a curious touch, Fitbit has reintroduced the physical side button, which we haven’t seen since the Charge 4.

The 1.04-inch AMOLED display serves as a touchscreen interface and has an ‘always-on’ setting, so you can use it as a regular watch.

It charges via a magnetic cable attached to the rear of the face, with an advertised battery life of 7 days (although this depends on your levels of use).

What we also see in the latest Fitbit wearable is the integration of Google Maps (no great surprise: the tech giant acquired Fitbit back in 2019), which offers a new level of navigation if you’re exercising outdoors.

It also has another brand-new feature in the form of Google Wallet (with select banks only) – perfect if you find yourself out on said run, and you need to nip to the shops.

The Charge 6 is available at Currys in three colours – black, cream and orange – and comes with two different strap lengths.
