Confident Lady Louise quickly learnt from royal mentor, Duchess Sophie

Lady Louise recently shone at the annual Royal Windsor Horse Show while her proud parents, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and Prince Edward looked on.

Looking chic as she took command of a carriage, the young Windsor’s role at the event was a sweet nod to her late grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, who famously loved it.

Often accompanied by both the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh on public outings, Louise tends to stay close to her mother, with whom it is clear she has a special bond.

And as she gets older, the 19-year-old has been cast into the public eye more so than ever, which according to body language expert, Judi James, she has been well prepared for by Sophie.

Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she analysed how their relationship has changed in just a short two-year period.

Judi said: “It was Prince Philip’s funeral that really threw Lady Louise into the front line of royal life.

“Until that point, she had been glimpsed by the public looking like a rather shy teenager who was happily eclipsed in the press by her very sociable, confident and popular mother Sophie.

“Both mother and daughter looked distraught at Philip’s death though, sharing their grief together and with Louise appearing in interviews with both her parents as a much more adult presence.

“Although Philip’s closeness to Sophie had often been referred to, it was Louise who emerged as very much her grandfather’s heir when it came to his love of carriage driving.”

Judi went on: “She also emerged as a poised and confident teenager to stand vigil around the Queen’s coffin, alongside her older cousins and younger brother, showing a calm steeliness under the quieter outer image.”

Despite not having an official royal title like her parents, Lady Louise has become a young royal after years of following her mother’s lead.

The young Windsor, who will turn 20 in November, is often spotted physically close to Duchess Sophie as she is guided through the royal protocol.

According to the body language expert, Lady Louise appears to be “a very fast learner” based on past outings.

She said: “Suddenly she would be mirroring her mother and using her as her role model when it came to protocol and regal style.

“The closeness between them was obvious but now the need for Sophie’s role as protective coach and royal mentor seems to becoming redundant and the pair’s body language is suggesting they relate as friends as well as mother and daughter.

“Sophie’s gestures with her daughter at the Coronation of King Charles suggest some shared humour as well as empathy. They were chatting together a lot on the way into the Abbey at the coronation and later on the balcony, too.

“Like her mother, Louise seems to be a ‘fuss-free’ royal who is able to live a relatively normal life at university as well as making occasional appearances at royal events.”
