There are plenty of options out there when it comes to looking younger, from fashion to facials, haircuts to cosmetic treatments, but what about looking younger from the inside out? International leader in functional medicine Dr Mark Hyman shared five foods which will make those who eat them look and feel better in no time.

Dr Mark has a whopping 287,000 followers on TikTok, with whom he shares incredible insights about health and ageing.

In a video entitled Five Foods For Longevity, the expert shared five healthy foods that feel like “medicine”.

He told his viewers: “I’m a functional medicine doctor and here are five things I eat every day to ensure my health and to make sure I live a long and healthy life.”

He added that “these things are medicine – they are dope”. Here are the five foods Dr Mark encouraged us to stock up on.

His first recommendation was cruciferous vegetables, which include broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts and cabbage.

These are great because they “contain compounds that activate the cellular detoxification pathways that optimise your mineral status like magnesium”.

They also contain lots of folate which is key for a process called methylation which “affects your biological age”.

He revealed that it’s “important” to eat at least a cup or two of these type of veggies every day.

Delicious over a salad, Dr Mark’s next recommendation was to consume plenty of extra virgin olive oil.

This contains plenty anti-inflammatory compounds, works as well as Aspirin according to some studies – “and tastes good too”.

While many believe that we should stay away from fats in order to leave a healthy life, the expert dispelled this myth, stating that “good fats are good for you”.

Next, Dr Mark told people to stock up on nuts, as they are known to “extend life, cause a reduction in diabetes, increase health span and lifespan”.

They’re also jam-packed with vitamins, minerals, protein and fibre – “they’re one of nature’s superfoods”.

The expert also told people to fill up on blueberries, as these are a great source of antioxidants and phyto-chemicals which activate longevity pathways that we need to activate our healing system – “this is all key to staying young forever”.

Finally, Dr Mark encouraged people to start drinking green tea, which is rich in phyto-chemicals called catechins which “activate longevity switches and pathways in our bodies which keep us young and keep us healthy”.
