Kate Middletons latest curls look like they were created with a heatless overnight hair hack

We’re a little bit obsessed with Kate Middleton’s hair at the moment. Alright, we’re always a little bit obsessed with her hair, but specifically now. The Duchess of Cambridge seems to be trying out a few new looks this year, temporarily forfeiting her favourite bouncy blow-dry for more sleek looks.

Now, in a move away from her go-to full-volume curls, Kate is showing off a “half-curl” style that looks like it could have been created with a viral heatless method. What’s this trend all about? Overnight curls, as they’re called on TikTok, give most of the definition and body to the ends of the hair rather than the roots.

Kate unveiled this gorgeous hairstyle when she visited Flemish Farm in Windsor this week. She was there to watch Wills take part in the Royal Charity Polo Cup 2022, but we were mostly watching her hair. It also seems like the Duchess has had subtle balayage highlights added to the ends of her hair, which lend warmth and contour to her complexion. Stunning.

Dressing gown cord

Zoe says: “This is great because the method is completely free – just find a dressing gown and borrow the cord. Once you’ve found one, place it over your head so the ends hang down with the rest of your (damp) hair, and secure the top with a clip.

“Then, wind sections of your hair around the cord until all of the hair has been wrapped. Secure both ends of the cord with elastic bands, and tie them at the back of your head for extra staying power. Leave overnight and unwrap the next morning for bouncy curls localised around the ends of your hair.”

Aodaer Water Ripple Hair Rollers, £13.99 here for 30

Zoe says: “How fun do these look? They give more of a mermaid-like effect than a K-Middy-inspired bounce, but with crimped hair trending right now, this might be more up your street.

“The application takes longer than the dressing gown method, and they aren’t easy to sleep in, but once you’ve pulled every section of your hair through the 30 ripple moulds, your work is done. Again, start with damp hair for best results.”

REHAB Silk Heatless Curler, £60 here for the kit

Zoe says: “This is like the fancy version of the dressing gown hack, and, I must admit, feels a lot more ‘official’. The principal is the same: curl your hair, starting from front to back around the silk headband, securing it at the top with the provided claw clip.

“The kit also comes with two silk scrunchies to tie off each end of the headband. It takes some getting used to at night, but the results the next day are so worth it – bouncy and long lasting. Just make sure you start with damp hair for longevity.”
