Body image on social media is something that's talked about all the time.

People worry about how unrealistic photographs are thanks to editing, airbrushing and more recently, artificial intelligence (AI). But people have started speaking out about how it shouldn't come under such harsh criticism.

A creator and agent who represents a popular, artificially intelligent social media influencer has hit back after it was alleged CGI bombshell Milla Sofia has been setting unrealistic expectations for women. The Finland-based creator, who asked not to be named, told the Independent: "Social media influencers edit and airbrush their content all the time, and different filters are popular."

The 24-year-old, generated from pre-existing images, has a huge following on Instagram thanks to her engaging content. By using artificial intelligence, she has a super skinny waist, sports low-cut tops and dabbles in superhero cosplay.

A lot of people are so engrossed with adoring her stunning snaps that they often don't realise the model isn't real. And this seems to be what's riling up commenters.

Some are concerned that women will start comparing themselves to the AI influencers they see online. Unfortunately, this can make them feel inadequate in response.

One wrote: "PLEASE REMOVE YOURSELF AND STOP HURTING YOUNG GIRLS WITH EVEN MORE UNREAL BEAUTY STANDARDS. Our youth is feeling like s*** and you are making it worse."

Meanwhile, real life influencers like Danae Mercer have used their platforms to speak out against AI models. And the body positive babe thinks they could be particularly damaging to children.

“I absolutely think AI is changing beauty standards to a dangerous degree,” she exclusively told Daily Star. “It’s creating unrealistic beauty standards – and we are only going to see more of it."

Despite the backlash, the person who create Milla has defended the page.

They believe how people view body image is very much already embedded in society – and said: "Many models and influencers have undergone cosmetic surgeries. So, the ideas of beauty has been distorted already for a long time.

"Artificial intelligence only makes it easier to make changes, and it is kind of just an additional step further away from reality."

It was also claimed that AI can be "good and bad, just like many other innovations." So what do you think? Let us know in the comments below.
