A woman has ignited a fierce debate online after a photo showed her refusing to move up the check-in queue at an airport.

The polarising image – believed to be taken in an airport in Argentina – was posted on Reddit, and shows a huge gap between the end of the queue and the unknown woman, who had not moved to close the empty space.

While the person who took the photo was obviously baffled by the woman’s inaction, she remained focused squarely on her phone and barely seemed to notice.

The bewildered photographer must have questioned the traveller at some point, because they claim they were told: ‘It’s the same if I move now or later’.

The amusing photo has divided opinion, with many claiming queues were a ‘British’ thing, while one person said her refusal to move was an ‘unforgivable sin’.

Reporting the event on Reddit, the poster wrote: ‘This girl at the airport waits until the queue moves all the way forward to move.

‘People confronted her and she said ‘it’s the same if i move now or later’.’

The post divided opinion so much, it has now racked up a staggering 4,700 comments.

One comment read: ‘This post is making so many British people so angry.’

‘They say us British people like to join queues. We don’t and I will be first in line to tell you that,’ said another person.

Someone else who claimed to be from the US said: ‘I’m American and it’s irritating as s**t. I’ll bet she sits in the front of the plane and takes 20 minutes to get her s**t out of the overhead compartment when the plane lands.’

Someone else said: ‘Apparently this is the most unforgivable sin.’

Meanwhile one person said it robbed the idea of progress: ‘I want the f**king illusion of progress!!’

‘Give me increments or give me death!’ Added another.

Someone else said: ‘Sometimes I wait for two “shuffle ahead” events before moving to give people behind me the feeling that the line’s making bigger progress’.

Queuing etiquette has long been the cause of many flare-ups at airports.

During China’s Lunar New Year travel rush in 2017, a fierce fight broke out which saw two men hit each other in front of a long line of passengers.

They burst into an argument while queuing to pass security checks because one passenger had allegedly tried to jump the queue, which enraged the other and led to a fistfight.

The incident occurred at around 5am in the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport in southern China. Airport security staff arrived on the scene and managed to separate the pair.

The two passengers bumped into each other again on a shuttle bus while heading to their boarding gates and had another altercation.

The argument was stopped by security guards and Zhao called the police.

Police officers managed to calm both parties and they apologised to each other.
