Darts star checks out 120 with bold finish combination and fans say hes cold

A darts ace produced an extraordinary checkout which left fans branding him ‘cold’.

Reece Robinson produced a moment of magic as he took on Andy Boulton as the MODUS Super Series held its latest Champions Week. At 2-1 down, Robinson found himself on a 120 finish, but rather going down the usual 'Shanghai' route of treble 20, single 20, double 20, his eyes were on double top only.

And he promptly nailed the double 20 bed three times in a row before celebrating with a fist pump. It wasn’t the first time he had performed the trick. On commentary, former PDC professional Paul Nicholson said: “He’s gone for three tops again. Will it work? It’s worked!”

Fans were also left delighted by the finish, with one declaring: “He’s cold.” Another joked: “Mardle has lost his voice again.”

It reminded some fans of dodgy counter Jose de Sousa hitting the same finish during the Premier League in 2021. In the first leg of a match against Nathan Aspinall, the ‘Special One’ had a torrid visit of 41, leaving him on 120. But he recovered brilliantly with an audacious three-tops finish.

During the visit, Sky Sports commentator Wayne Mardle yelled. “He’s not [going to do it], oh stop it, stop it right now!”

Fellow commentator Nigel Pearson, who passed away last year, quipped: “Absolutely ridiculous. Jose de Sousa leaves Wayne Mardle lost for words.”
