Darwin Nunez credits former Premier League manager for stunning two-goal cameo after he 'corrected things' on Zoom chat | The Sun

DARWIN NUNEZ has credited Marcelo Bielsa for his two-goal cameo off the bench against Newcastle.

The Uruguayan striker scored twice late on as Liverpool snatched a dramatic victory at St. James' Park on Sunday.

He has now revealed that a Zoom chat with Bielsa inspired his performance.

The former Leeds manager "corrected things" for Nunez during their video call.

The Reds forward explained: "He showed me some of my games and corrected some things.

"It was a very good talk. A lot of people told me he is a serious guy. It is a new national team set up, I hope it goes well for us."

Bielsa is the new boss of the Uruguayan national team, for whom Nunez has scored three goals in 16 caps.

He signed a two-and-a-half year deal as manager back in May and won his first two matches in charge the following month.

Although Nunez was absent from those June friendlies, he could return to the side for next month's international break.

Uruguay are set to face Chile and Ecuador in World Cup qualifying in September.

Nunez's brace against Newcastle were his first goals of the season.

The 24-year-old showed off his impressive pace and finishing during his stunning cameo.

His strikes have taken his tally for Liverpool to 17 goals in 45 appearances since signing from Benfica last summer.

Nunez will be hoping to continue his form in front of goal on Sunday as Liverpool face Aston Villa away from home.
