ENGLAND'S historic Euro 2022 victory over Germany was watched by a peak audience of 17.4million on BBC One.
The nation got right behind the Lionesses as they finally ended 56 years of hurt by beating the Germans 2-1 and lifting a major trophy.
Support for the team gathered momentum as the tournament went on, with Sarina Wiegman's side producing a series of brilliant performances.
The BBC's Gary Lineker took to social media to confirm the final's incredible viewership.
He wrote: "A 17.4 million peak audience watched @Lionesses triumph on @BBCOne last night. Wonderful."
The match received a similarly impressive audience in Germany.

Bundesliga reporter Archie Rhind-Tutt wrote on Twitter: "An average of nearly 18million people yesterday watched the Euros final on TV in Germany, a record for a women's football game in Germany.
"When Germany became European champions in 2013, nearly nine million fewer were watching."
He added: "Nearly two-thirds of people watching TV in Germany last night were tuned into England-Germany.
"Makes it also the highest reach for a women's football game in 🇩🇪."

England skipper Leah Williamson is determined to capitalise on the momentum of the tournament, passionately urging fans to attend WSL games.
The Arsenal star told the BBC: "The legacy of this tournament is a change in society.
"It's everything we've done. We've bought everyone together.
“We've got people to come to (Euros) games and we want them to come to WSL games. The legacy of this team is winners, and this is the start of the journey."
England stars deservedly partied into the night, with a parade planned for Trafalgar Square later today.
