Horse racing tips: My big York NAP can strike at 6-1 under red-hot jockey Saffie Osborne | The Sun

TEMPLEGATE takes on day one of the epic York Ebor Festival confident of banging in plenty of winners.

Read on for our man's top tips and back a horse by clicking their odds below.

GRAPPA NONINO (4.10 York, nap)

He can take this red-hot handicap. He is trained by a living legend in Dermot Weld who has only had one other runner in this contest and they won back in 2011.

In-form Saffie Osborne takes the ride on this four-year-old who weaved his way past 20 rivals to score at The Curragh 10 days ago. He is out quickly under a 5lb penalty before his revised higher mark kicks in. He has winning form over this testing trip and can go close.

BALLYMOUNT BOY (2.25 York, nb)

He sets the clear standard for trainer Adrian Keatley after being beaten just a length in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time.

KORKER (1.50 York, treble)

He looked to be coming to the boil when a good second at Sandown last time. He has winning form over this course and distance and his stall seven draw should be fine.

KORKER looked to be coming to the boil when a good second at Sandown last time.

He broke smartly, which hasn’t always been the case, but was put in front a little too soon and was mugged in the final few yards. He has winning form over this course and distance and his stall seven draw should be fine under Clifford Lee.

Intrinsic Bond comes here in fine form after a win and a second at Ascot. It’s plus having Oisin Murphy on board today.

Manila Scouse could be drawn better but is progressive as he showed with wins at Haydock and Chepstow. He was second here last month and can figure again.

2.25

BALLYMOUNT BOY sets the clear standard for trainer Adrian Keatley after being beaten just a length in the Group 2 Richmond Stakes at Glorious Goodwood last time.

The form has been franked by the winner Vandeek taking the Group 1 Prix Morny in France last time. This step up in distance will bring some improvement and he’s the one to beat.

Cogitate didn’t have to break sweat when winning on debut at Newbury last month. He wasn’t beating a lot but did it really nicely and will come on for the experience.

The vibes around him have been positive and he’s been well backed. The booking of William Buick by sprint king trainer Charlie Hills is another positive.

Edwardian was value for much more than the official winning margin when scoring at Naas on his second run. That was over five furlongs but he’s bred for this sort of test and it should bring out the best in the Aidan O’Brien runner. He can take a step forward.

CONTINUOUS came back to his best when second at Royal Ascot last time and ran well on his last visit to York when a close-up third in May’s Dante.

The mount of Ryan Moore is the one horse in the field who is at his best over the 1m4f trip and he acts on any ground.

Gregory is a real talent and comes here the short-priced favourite for the St Leger. He was a smart winner of the Queen’s Vase over 1m6f at Royal Ascot but he did need every yard of it to land the win. His class will take him close.

Castle Way is another who used all his staying power when winning in the Bahrain Trophy at Newmarket last month. That built nicely on his Listed win on the Rowley course and there’s more to come from the Charlie Appleby runner.

3.35

MOSTAHDAF was so impressive when winning the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot last time and is worth supporting against odds-on shot Paddington.

Frankie Dettori takes over from the suspended Jim Crowley level on  five Juddmonte International wins with his hero Lester Piggott. And he has every chance of beating the great man given how much the Team Gosden horse enjoyed dropping to this trip last time.

He cruised past his rivals to win going away – clocking a fast time in the process. He will have to at least match that form but he’s been given a nice rest ahead of this assignment and he has relatively few miles on the clock for his age.

Of course Paddington is the huge danger after he made it seven wins in a row in the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goowood. That was over a mile but he showed his liking for this trip when winning the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown and gets 7lb as a three-year-old.

My only worry is the ground was very testing at Goodwood and he’s back just three weeks after that big effort. That may just take the edge off the Aidan O’Brien star.

The booking of Ryan Moore for Tony Martin hope Zanndabad catches the eye. The yard have won this race before and this is his first run since May. He’s been placed in Listed company and should stay given he ran well over hurdles earlier this year.

Aztec Empire was a solid third at Newbury behind Sweet William last time when seeing out this distance well. He likes decent ground and is back from the same handicap mark with a chance.
