‘I’ve got Shearer’s support – now I’ll bring the World Champ trophy to St James’

Chris Dobey is eyeing up major darting glory but not for his world ranking or legacy – but so he can parade it around the pitch at St James' Park.

Hollywood secured a spot in the Premier League with a memorable triumph over Rob Cross in the final of the Masters earlier this year but scheduling conflicts meant he couldn't bring the silverware to Newcastle's home of 130 years.

When asked about his dreams of getting a second chance, Target Darts ambassador Dobey told Daily Star Sport: "You would want it to be the world championship but any major will do – just to be on that pitch.

A career best season on tour has brought three major quarter-finals including in the PDC World Championship, which rolls around again in just two months time.

Dobey believes that his upturn in form has been boosted by his first appearance in the Premier League, in which he won the opening night.

He added: "I think it's brought my game on massively. Leaps and bounds and I think I can take confidence, I can take experience out of that."

Another big move for Dobey away from the oche has been his deal with Target Darts – having already been using their equipment.

He added: "They're the darts that I used that since I got my Tour Card so I'm really happy.

"So it's nice to be able to join Target and use the new range, it's fantastic."
