Man Utd have £71.5m Frenkie de Jong bid accepted but huge row over unpaid wages and tour snub holding up transfer | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED have reportedly agreed a £71.5million fee with Barcelona to sign Frenkie de Jong but the midfielder is refusing to leave.

De Jong, 25, wants to resolve a salary dispute with the Spanish giants owing him £17m in unpaid wages.

The midfielder is in a stand off with the club after rejecting Barcelona's request to have the payment of his wages deferred, report the Daily Mail.

De Jong is refusing to agree a move to United as a result, despite a deal being agreed following a meeting between Richard Arnold, John Murtough and Barca chiefs on Monday.

United have reportedly had a bid worth £63m accepted, which could rise by £8.5m after add-ons.

That money would allow Barcelona to register new signings including Raphinha, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie.

De Jong's departure would also free up his £5m-a-year salary, which still has four years left to run.

Barcelona are trying to push through the Dutchman's exit and are considering leaving De Jong out of their pre-season tour of the US, according to Sport.

Barca are set to take on Real Madrid, Juventus, RB Leipzig and Inter Miami in the States – and it is hoped De Jong being left behind will encourage him to leave.

But De Jong is said to have "no intention" to leave the Nou Camp and is even willing to accept a pay cut to stay.

United were keen to get a deal wrapped up by midday on Friday, but this now seems extremely unlikely.

De Jong reportedly held talks with Barca earlier this week regarding his future and a return to training.

Manager Xavi has given the green light for his exit but De Jong is said to be keen to fight for his place in the team.
