Man Utd vs Newcastle: Last season's Carabao Cup finalists go head-to-head in last-16 clash – stream, TV, team news | The Sun

MANCHESTER UNITED face Newcastle in the Carabao Cup in a repeat of last season's final.

The Red Devils came away with the trophy back in February as they beat the Magpies 2-0 at Wembley.

Man United come into the fourth-round fixture in need of a win.

The Red Devils were humbled 3-0 by city rivals Manchester City which has seen the club drop to eighth in the Premier League table.

Erik ten Hag's side were not able to live with their rivals as Erling Haaland's brace and assist for Phil Foden decided the game.

Since the full time whistle, there has been a lot of talk about the club and what its next steps are.

Ten Hag appears in trouble while some argue that he needs more time while others are calling for Bruno Fernandes to be stripped of the captaincy.

Newcastle on the other hand are very much enjoying life this season after recovering from a difficult start.

Eddie Howe's men were held to a 2-2 draw at Wolves on the weekend but the mood is still buoyant at St James' Park.

The Magpies currently sit sixth in the Prem having not lost in seven league matches.

In the Champions League, the club still has every chance of qualifying out of their group as they are currently on equal points with second-placed Borussia Dortmund after three games.

Newcastle will be keen to get one over the Red Devils at Old Trafford after the heartbreaking defeat in the final of the Carabao Cup last season.

Casemiro and Marcus Rashford both scored in six first minutes to put United 2-0 ahead.

They were able to hold on to give Ten Hag his first silverware as United manager.

However, Newcastle's aim to break their major trophy drought since 1955 continues.

What is their form like?

Newcastle have only suffered one defeat in their last 11 matches.

The defeat came in the Champions League to Borussia Dortmund last week.

Howe's men have been in fine form as they have won six of the other ten, drawing four.

United's form has been a mixed bag so far this season and recently that has not changed.

The defeat to Man City put an end to a decent run from United, even if the performances were not the most convincing at times.

Ten Hag's side had won four in a row including twice in the Champions League against Copenhagen and Galatasaray.

What is the team news?

Newcastle will be without Sandro Tonali as he serves the second game of his ten-month ban following betting breaches.

Howe will also be without Sven Botman (knee), Alexander Isak (groin) and Jacob Murphy (shoulder) are all expected to miss out.

Ten Hag will continue to be without Luke Shaw (muscular) and Tyrell Malacia (knee) while Casemiro and Aaron Wan-Bissaka could return to selection.

Amad Diallo is back on grass after picking up an injury that kept him out of the first part of the season, but the clash against the Magpies is too soon for him to feature.

Who will be the star players?

Marcus Rashford could be the star man for Manchester United when they face Newcastle.

He has only scored once in the Premier League this season and could use the Carabao Cup as a way of getting his form back.

After the defeat to City, United need a player up and give the fans something to shout about, and Rashford could be that man with a solid outing.

For Newcastle, the star man will likely be Callum Wilson.

The Englishman has been in brilliant form this season despite being second fiddle to Isak up to his injury.

Now, with the chance to be the main man again, Wilson could add to his impressive tally of seven goals in 11 appearances in all competitions.

What have the managers said?

Eddie Howe has admitted that he may rotate his side for the fixture against United.

He said: “I think we’ve got to be very careful with the team selection, we’ve got to try and get that right. We’re very, very thin on the ground in certainly areas.

“This is what we want on a regular basis, this is the pinnacle. We’re not moaning about it [the schedule].

“I think the only disappointment for me is we have injuries to attacking players and it’s limited my options to change in running or freshen the players up who are maybe fatigued.

“But every player wants to play football and a lot of lads will get a lot of football in the next few weeks.”

Erik ten Hag wants to use the game against Newcastle to put things right after the defeat to Manchester City.

He said: "When you play against this team, everything has to be perfect.

"So you don't need help but also you don't want anything against you. Today was not our day.

"We have to accept that but don't forget the game-plan was very good in the first half. It hurts a lot. As you say, losing the derby is horrible.

''It could have been going a different way but it didn't. Now you have to deal with it.

"Accept it, how it is, and, in 24 hours, you have to get up and go the next game [Newcastle in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday]."

Score prediction?

Newcastle to win 2-1.
